John Wes Townley Winds Up 19th
in Toledo Crashfest
Toledo, OH (April 21, 2007) – On pace to challenge for the pole position during qualify for Saturday night’s ASA Late Model Challenge Series Glass Breaker 200 at Toledo (Oh.) Speedway, the rear end of John Wes Townley’s No. 09 Zaxby’s/BB&T/PFG Milton’s/Coca-Cola/ Lang Signs/Athens Quality Glass unexpectedly snapped around and backed into the Turn 4 wall.
The impact on the lightning fast .5-mile oval forced the 17-year-old Townley from Watkinsville, Ga. to roll out the backup car, the same machine he drove to a sixth-place finish at the Music City Motorplex three weeks earlier.
After starting at the rear of the 29-car field, Townley managed to climb as high as 15th until an 8-car pileup in the center of Turns 1 and 2 blocked the track on lap 144. Townley’s Ford suffered minor left-front damage as he attempt to weave through the carnage.
The Brothers Racing Team pit crew sprang into action and made repairs to allow the No. 09 to re-enter the event in the closing laps to claim a 19th-place finish in a race slowed by a staggering 13 cautions for 71 laps.
Townley returns to action in the ASA Late Model Series on Saturday May 5 when the South Division visits Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele.
Townley will make his debut in the NASCAR Busch East Series on Saturday April 28 when he pilots the No. 3 Zaxby’s Chevrolet at historic Greenville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina.
