John Wes Townley Signs Driver Development Deal with WBJTG
Harrisburg, NC. (January 4, 2007) – Georgia native John Wes Townley has signed a developmental driver contract with the Wood Brothers/JTG Racing Organization. The 17-year old up-and-coming sensation has a long list of racing credentials which precede him.
After beginning a karting career at the tender age of nine, Townley experienced immediate success, garnering several championships throughout Georgia, including a year 2000 Bandelero Title at Atlanta Motor Speedway. With guidance from Team Manager and Wood Brothers/JTG NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Joey Clanton, Townley set his sights on a Late Model career with backing from Zaxby's.
Under the tutelage of crew chief Wayne Hansard, who guided NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver Reed Sorenson during his Late Model career, it didn't take Townley long to make an impact near the end of the 2005 season. Townley went full-bore into the ASA Late Model South Division in 2006, capturing a season-best fourth-place finish at Bronson (FL) Motor Speedway and wound up fifth in the championship standings.
Townley quickly followed up with a stunning performance at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tenn. in Oct. 2006. After qualifying on the outside pole among 61 entries, Townley held his own during the All American 400 by running in the top-five nearly all day.
Townley will continue his Late Model campaign in 2007 with backing from long-time sponsor Zaxby's, as well as BB&T, Coca-Cola, PFG Milton's and Lang Signs. He intends to run the entire 2007 ASA Late Model South and Challenge schedules, in addition to five selected USAR Hooters Pro Cup events. He is tentatively scheduled to compete in two NASCAR Busch East events in a Wood Brothers/JTG Racing Ford.
Townley is looking forward to settling into his role at Wood Brothers/JTG as a developmental driver for the famous organization. "It's a terrific opportunity and one that should help propel my career even further," Townley said. "A chance like this doesn't come along very often and I'm making it my 2007 goal to get the absolute most of it," he added.
